CITY OF ELY<BR><BR>NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC<BR><BR>WATER SERVICE FREEZING<BR><BR>The weather conditions we are experiencing this year are conducive to freezing water lines due to low snow conditions. You may want to take precautions to minimize the chance of your water line freezing between the city water main and your home. If your line is not well protected by soil depth or insulation and is susceptible to freezing, you may want to run water to prevent a freeze up.<BR><BR>How much water do I need to run to prevent freezing?<BR><BR>The generally accepted practice is to run a stream of water from a faucet the size of a pencil.

Ely City Council <BR><BR>Public Hearing, December 6, 2011 <BR><BR> <BR><BR>The Ely City Council Public Hearing was called to order by Mayor Skraba at 5:02 p.m. on December 6, 2011 at the Joint Maintenance Facility Building.<BR><BR>PRESENT: Council members Debeltz, Nikkola, Salerno, Sheddy, and Mayor Skraba (5)<BR><BR>ABSENT: Zupec and Omerza (2)<BR><BR>Mayor Skraba stated the purpose of this hearing was to gather public input on proposed Ordinance No. 254, 2nd Series amending the Ely City Code, Chapter 7, Section 7.07 Obstructions in Streets and Sidewalks. The proposed amendment would clarify the ordinance language regarding placing snow, ice and leaves on public property. <BR><BR>Business owner Lenard Katauskas questioned the intent of Subd. 5C and Subd. 7.<BR><BR>The recommended wording changes to Subd.

Ely City Council <BR><BR>Public Hearing, <BR><BR>November 15, 2011 <BR><BR> <BR><BR>The Ely City Council Public Hearing was called to order by Mayor Skraba at 5:30 p.m. on November 15, 2011 at the Ely City Hall.<BR><BR>PRESENT: Council members Debeltz, Nikkola, Salerno, Sheddy, Zupec and Mayor Skraba (6)<BR><BR>ABSENT: Omerza (1)<BR><BR>Mayor Skraba stated the purpose of this hearing is to consider the proposed Sanitary Sewer Improvements (Second Avenue to Fourth Avenue) project and to gather public input on the proposed improvements. The City of Ely is seeking financial assistance from the St. Louis County Community Development Block Grant Program to implement the proposed project. <BR><BR>Operations Director Langowski stated this was a sewer and water main improvement project located in the alley between White St. and Pattison St. from Second Ave E to Fourth Ave E.

Ely Cemetery Rules and Regulations

General Rules<BR><BR>The City shall have charge of all surveying, platting, and other cemetery improvements including landscaping and the installation of benches.<BR><BR>The completion of a gravesite is the responsibility of the family. This includes planting or laying grass, marker installation, etc. No water hose shall be left unattended or it will be disconnected.<BR><BR>The Ely Cemetery will provide perpetual care. The filling of settled graves and repair of uneven markers will be completed as budget allows. Families are encouraged to complete this work as they are able.<BR><BR>No dogs, alcoholic beverages, ATVs or snowmobiles are allowed on cemetery property.<BR><BR>No person shall have in his or her possession a firearm or explosive, except on-duty police officers or members of military organizations conducting honors at military funerals or civic functions.

Others in attendance Dennis Schilling, Mary Citch, Ely TV, James Devine, Kelly Klun, Scott Stowell, Duane Whalin, Rick Sand, John Fossum, Dave Mareau, and Harold Langowski<BR><BR>Meeting called to order at 6:06 pm by Chairman Soderberg <BR><BR>Soderberg stated the City of Ely had requested this meeting to discuss annexation. Skraba stated that the City wanted to annex City owned property which abuts the eastern corporate limit. Not included in this particular annexation request is the USFS complex.

Superior National Forest Birch Project

USDA FOREST SERVICE<BR><BR>SUPERIOR NATIONAL FOREST<BR><BR>KAWISHIWI RANGER DISTRICT<BR><BR>LAKE & ST. LOUIS COUNTIES, MINNESOTA<BR><BR>BIRCH PROJECT<BR><BR>Mark Van Every, Kawishiwi District Ranger made the decision to implement Alternative 2 of the Birch Project, which will restore forest conditions and maintain or improve the diversity of plant and animal communities, reduce hazardous fuels in wildland urban interface areas, and provide sustainable timber products. Activities include a combination of timber harvest, biomass removal, balsam fir piling and burning, under burning, wildlife habitat improvement (sheering and burning), site preparation, seeding and planting. The Birch Project is located in Lake and St. Louis Counties in Townships 61 to 63 North, Ranges 11 to 13 West.
